And we were all dressed up in love...the only label that never goes out of style"

-Carrie Bradshaw, Sex and the City

The process of finding my dress was a long one...I thought two different gowns were "the one" before I found THE DRESS...
my MOH and I decided to visit Vera Wang Chicago during a dress shopping trip in February of 2009.  I have to rave about my experience there....my consultant Sarah was second to none and the entire staff made me feel like I was the only one in the store.  While there I fell in love with the "Velvet Roses" style and bought it that day!  Here are some photos of my beautiful gown....I can't wait for it to come and go for my first fitting with my mom and FMIL!

The gown will be in ivory and is silk satin on the bottom and a translucent English netting on top.  It has a v-neck and a criscrossed waist and ties in the back (will likely tie in a simple knot instead of a bow as shown in the model photo).  There is a row of velvet roses at the nape of the neck from which two panels of netting drape - these can be twisted to expose more uncovered skin.  A panel of netting also extends from the back and forms part of the train.  It's mermaid-style and has a small sweep train which I hope to bustle in a French bustle!

The Veil

I'll be wearing an ivory cathedral-length veil single-layer veil with no edging.  The veil will be worn low, over my hairstyle, and will be removed right after the photos.  I'm going with a long and thin veil so that I don't cover the detail on the back of my dress..I can't wait to take photos in it!

The Hair

Picture
My hair inspiration is Carrie Bradshaw during the Vogue photoshoot from the "Sex and the City" movie...specifically her Oscar de la Renta look.  I plan to wear my hair in a low chignon or intricate bun, perhaps offset to the side, with a white or red peony tucked behind my ear.  Still trying to decide if peonies are hardy enough to last without wilting....if not I may go with a silk peony instead of fresh!  This photo is a great example of what I'm trying to achieve!

The Shoes!

Picture
My shoes will be bright red with a high heel since I'm known for wearing heels!  These are my current favorites :)

The Garter

Picture
Since our wedding will have elements involving our favorite team, the Ohio State Buckeyes, it's only fitting that my garter fits the theme!  I haven't bought it yet but it will likely look very much like this one!

The Bridal Bouquet

Picture
I really hope to be able to have a bouquet of white peonies (to go with my hair) like this one, but that may not be possible given that peonies are hard to find in Ohio in July!  I'm also considering going against my color scheme and walking down the aisle with a bouquet of yellow gerber daisies---the first flower that FI ever gave me and now the only kind of flowers he brings home!  Strangely enough he had no idea that they were my favorite flowers or in my favorite color (they were!)....just another sign that we're something special!
